ha seguito i suoi studi musicali al Conservatorio di Anversa e ha ottenuto il "Diploma superiore" con grande distinzione nel 1982 nella classe di Jan Van Reeth. Nel nello stesso anno è stato vincitore della "Tenuto-competition" (Concorso della Radio e Televisione belga). Ha continuato a studiare il flauto a Londra con Jonathan Snowdon e ha seguito Master Classes con Aurèle Nicolet, William Bennett, Andras Adorjan e Konrad Hünteler.
Julius Baker lo ha invitato alla Juilliard School of Music di New York. Nel frattempo è stato nominato Capo Dipartimento della sezione flauto di "La Monnaie" Symphonic Orchestra "(Opera nazionale belga). Da quel momento è stato uno dei più attivi e richiesti flautisti in Belgio e ha suonato in tutta Europa, America e Giappone.

Carlos Bruneel si è sempre dedicato con passione all’insegnamento.
Nel 1994 è stato nominato come professore di flauto al Conservatorio di Bruxelles e nel 2013 è diventato anche direttore del reparto fiati di quella stessa istituzione. È stato professore ospite al conservatorio di Den Haag (Olanda) e tiene Master Classes in tutta Europa e in Giappone. I sui studenti hanno conseguito posizioni di rilievo in numerose orchestre e ensemble.
Carlos Bruneel è inoltre regolarmente chiamato come membro di giuria in concorsi internazionali.
Ugualmente a suo agio nella musica da camera, è stato membro del "Prometheus Ensemble" e suona regolarmente vari repertori di musica da camera con i suoi colleghi della Monnaie Orchestra, in particolare il "Monnaie Wind Quintet". Ha tenuto concerti con "The Salzburger Solists "e suona i suoi recital da solista con diversi pianisti, come Jan Michiels, Levente Kende, Katsura Mizumoto, Daniël Blumenthal, Luc Devos e altri. Ha suonato in recitals vocale/strumentale con i soprani Yvonne Kenny e Renée Fleming insieme ai loro pianisti Geoffrey Parsons e Helmuth Deutch.

Carlos Bruneel did his musical studies at the Antwerp Conservatorium and obtained the “higher diploma” with great distinction in 1982 in the class of Mr. Jan Van Reeth. In the same year he was a winner of the “Tenuto-competition” (Belgium Radio and Television Contest). In the mean time he has been appointed in 1981 as head of the flute section of “La Monnaie Symphonic Orchestra” (Belgium National Opera). Ever since he has been one of the most active and demanded flutists in Belgium, he played all over Europe, in America and Japan. He has performed as a soloist with many leading orchestras in Belgium such as “The Monnaie Symphonic Orchestra”, “BRTN Ancient Philharmonic Orchestra “ (=Radio Orchestra), “Flanders Philharmonic Orchestra”, “Flanders Symphonic Orchestra” and several Chamber Orchestras: “Prima La Musica”, “Collegium Instrumentale Brugense”, “Sinfonia”, “La Squadra”, with conductors such as Antonio Pappano, Lothar Zagrosek, Silvain Cambreling, Friedeman Layer, Etienne Siebens and Dirk Vermeulen. Carlos Bruneel has always been passionate by teaching. In 1994 he has been appointed as professor for flute at the Brussels Conservatorium and in 2013 he became also head of the wind department of that same institution. He has been guest professor at the conservatory of Den Haag (Holland) and is giving Master Classes throughout Europe and Japan. His students have leading positions in numerous orchestras and ensembles. Carlos Bruneel is also regularly a member of the jury in international competitions. Equally at home in chamber music, he was a member of the “Prometheus Ensemble” and plays regularly various chamber music repertoire with his colleagues of the Monnaie Orchestra, in particularly the “Monnaie Wind Quintet”. He gave concerts with “The Salzburger Solists” and is playing his solo-recitals with several pianists, such as Jan Michiels, Levente Kende, Katsura Mizumoto, DaniСl Blumenthal, Luc Devos and others. In song recitals he played with Yvonne Kenny and RenОe Fleming together with their pianists Geoffrey Parsons and Helmuth Deutch. His recordings includes Rossini’s quartets for flute and strings with “ The Monnaie String Trio”, flute concertos from the Mannheim School with “The Chamber Orchestra Sinfonia”, Mozart concertos (flute concerto in G and the Symphony Concertante in Es) with “The Chamber Orchestra Prima La Musica”, Belgium Romantic flute sonatas with pianist Levente Kende.
